BLOCK A

2022

Various installation sketches during a period of  4 months that are the building blocks for later works

The series had its origins during my time in the studio while I was pursuing my master's degree at Frank Mohr. This it continued to evolve during my residency at NP3 research gallery in Groningen.

Over the course of my month-long residency, there was a continual evolution of materials, techniques, and approaches. The gallery acted as a dynamic and ever-evolving platform for experimentation and exploration. This period was marked by daily cycles of construction and deconstruction, resulting in the creation of new iterations of the installations

Much like my digital creations, where I sculpt and manipulate 3D shapes and objects within the virtual realm, I aimed to replicate this creative process in the physical world. Just as I manipulate digital forms through software, I endeavored to do the same with tangible, real-world materials.

One of the primary mediums I employed was large pieces of isolation foam. This material proved to be exceptionally suited for my transformative process, enabling me to carve, shape, and meld it with the same precision and freedom that I enjoyed in the digital realm.

The window display offered a unique and singular viewing direction, providing a distinctive visual experience. This formed a contrast with the main gallery space where visitors could orbit around the work. This duality provided me new insights regarding how to position the piece in relation to its surroundings and its impact on the interactions of the audience.
